However, with its smart hinge that allows for 2-in-1 use, it certainly makes for a lot of design aesthetics. It is not a big issue though.Īt the end of the day, the design of the ASUS ROG Flow X16 is pretty striking when compared to other ROG units. However, it’s worth noting that when you flip past the 180° mark, there’s a small amount of play-less than 10mm-when you hold the unit and it comes to rest in that position. Thus, it can be completely flipped into tablet mode, standard laptop mode, and inverted mode (keyboard flat and upright screen). The hinges are quite solid and keep the unit in place during use. Without knowing beforehand, I realized that the screen could flip backwards, turning itself into a tablet in the process. It’s on the lid and the palm that rests next to the touchpad on the inside. I found myself having to wipe it off every day or so, just to prevent a buildup of unsightly fingerprints. The lid has a textured finish – the diagonal we’ve seen on a lot of ASUS laptops in the past.ĭespite the textured finish, it still picks up some smudges every now and then, which is a bit annoying.

Magnesium build-up is allowed in the interior. The build features a mix of plastic and aluminum material over a black/dark gray finish. However, the ASUS ROG Flow X16 looks very similar in comparison. Both of these have a distinctive design ethos to their range. In terms of the looks department, it doesn’t offer much on design as compared to the Strix or Zephyrus units. It is ideal for carrying around in its small frame with a weight of just 2.1KG (2.08KG to be more precise). It fits in all my backpacks without any problems. Its dimensions are 355x243x194mm, which makes it quite compact. Despite what’s under the surface, the unit has very little to package. ASUS ROG Flow X16 Build and DesignĪlthough it’s not noticeable at first when unboxing the ASUS ROG Flow X16, there’s a lot more to unpack from the seemingly inconspicuous build. The unit has a few handy tricks up its sleeve, let’s see what they are. However, I was more surprised by what had come. When the ASUS ROG Flow X16 – to be more specific – was first acquired the ASUS ROG Flow X16 – I expected some middle ground. While the Strix delivers an out-and-out gaming experience, the Zephyrus adds a bit of stiffness to the range with its predominantly AMD Ryzen range leaning a bit on the more cost-effective side. After getting the ASUS ROG Flow X16 for review, I was able to do just that. Having previously reviewed as many ROG laptops as the Strix and Zephyrus units, I was excited to see what the Flow had. As part of its marketing campaign, the ASUS team defined in detail how the new range of laptops would fit into its already impressive ROG series.
